Meet the king of treat-mooching: Cruze!

Cruze is a handsome 7-year-old Rottweiler belonging to one of our very own team members. He recently visited us for a CT scan to check his joints for arthritis, where it was discovered he also needed to have a large lipoma removed.

Understanding Lipomas: When is a lump a concern?

While lipomas are benign (non-malignant) fatty tumors, they aren’t always harmless. These growths can reach significant sizes – sometimes even weighing a few pounds – and can become problematic depending on several factors.

We generally recommend removal if a lipoma is:

  • Growing rapidly.

  • Restricting movement or causing discomfort.

  • Located in a high-friction area (like the “armpit” or groin).

Navigating Osteoarthritis in Large Breeds

Cruze is also at the age where osteoarthritis becomes a concern. Most large-breed dogs Cruze’s age have some degree of osteoarthritis, a wear and tear disease of the joints. Modern veterinary medicine offers a wide range of tools to manage joint health and maintain quality of life, including a variety of supplements, laser, physio and specialized exercise such as underwater treadmills, chiropractic, nutrition, stem cell therapy and medications to keep them comfortable and mobile for as long as possible!

Cruze is currently recovering well from his surgery and is back to his favorite routine of scouting for treats. Great to see you feeling better, Cruze!
